Another great way to keep moving is with group fitness classes. Not only are they a great workout, but they also foster a sense of camaraderie and motivation that can't be replicated while working out alone. e WAC offers a full slate of fitness classes led by passionate professionals—from high-in- tensity classes to more mellow forms. Yoga, in particular, is a popular option for many nearing their "third age"—gen- erally considered the period of active living before and aer retirement. For member Joanne Harrell, attending WAC Yoga Instructor Dr. Jim Weber's classes has enriched her quality of life. "I'm more limber, calmer, and—most surprisingly—happier," Joanne says. "Dr. Jim is especially aware of the importance of making each person feel like they belong in his class." Member Phillip Stein echoes that senti- ment. His inexperience with yoga had him on the fence until he realized the benefits weren't just physical. "Initially, I thought it was kind of slow," he says. "I kept coming back and, before I knew it, I was looking forward to each class." Phillip also points out that the connec- tions he made with classmates virtually during the height of the pandemic were critical to his well-being. "We all became closer as we took the class together," he says. "And I find I am a much kinder and happier person since I started yoga."
