The Boys in the Boat

Movie mania took over the Washington Athletic Club this past
December as more than 150 WAC members and their guests
gathered for an exclusive pre-release showing of The Boys in
the Boat, based on the true story of the University of Wash-
ington eight-oar men's crew team that won gold at the 1936
Berlin Olympics. The WAC played an instrumental role in help-
ing raise money for the real-life team. Members and guests
gathered at the WAC Clubhouse for a pre-show social, which
included a historical display centered around memorabilia of
Gordon Adam, one of the true "Boys in the Boat." Gordy's
daughter-in-law, Karen (top right), also joined the event.
The movie, directed by George Clooney, premiered at SIFF
Cinema Downtown earlier in December. Clooney attended the
premiere with his wife, Amal. Joining them were more than
500 others, including members of the WAC community.
