Discover the land 'Down Under'
Plan your next adventure to Australia
With a landmass slightly smaller than
the contiguous United States, Austra-
lia offers abundant opportunities for
discovery and adventure. Plus, you'll
find reciprocal clubs in Australia's three
most populous states—Queensland, New
South Wales, and Victoria.
Let's start with the country's north-
ernmost state, Queensland, which
encompasses the entirety of Australia's
northeast coast. Here, you'll find the
city of Brisbane and, to the north, the
Australian Zoo. You've heard of e
Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, right?
e late legend made his name at the
zoo, which is still operated by his family.
Off the coast of Queensland, you'll find
one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural
World: e Great Barrier Reef.
Below Queensland is New South
Wales and the city of Sydney, home
to nearly 20 percent of the country's
populace. You probably know about the
iconic Sydney Opera House, but you'll
also be amazed by the city's other strik-
ing landmarks, like the Sydney Harbour
Bridge and 879-foot-high Sydney Tower
Skywalk. Sydney is also a perfect place
to learn to surf. Try Bondi, Umina, or
Collaroy beach.
A trip farther south takes you to the
city of Melbourne, located in Victoria
state. e nine-hour drive from Sydney
to Melbourne is one of the best ways to
take in the beauty of the eastern coast.
Just remember to drive on the LEFT
side of the road! Once you arrive, stretch
your legs at the historic Queen Victoria
Market, where food stalls and vendors
have been feeding Melburnians for over
140 years.
Oh yes, and one final tip about
Melbourne? Aussies oen drop the "r"
sound. So don't forget, it's Mel-bin!
