And no, you don't have to be a 7-footer to join the city's premier in-house league. e league features five men's divi- sions, divided by age and skill level, plus a women's team. Whether you stand 7-foot- 1 and played a decade in the NBA, like member Spencer Hawes, or are a newbie to hoops looking for a way to incorporate cardio and competition into your work- out, there's a place for you. "We divide the league by age and skill to provide an even playing field," Athletic Programs Manager Darin Barr says. "It's all about keeping things as fair and com- petitive as possible. We can match anyone into the appropriate division." e league plays two seasons each year—in fall and spring—and every- one who signs up is guaranteed a team and seven regular season games. ere are also playoffs and an end-of-season banquet. While players of all experience levels are invited to join the league, the most competitive division draws some of the city's best, including Spencer and fellow 7-foot NBA veteran Solomon Alabi. "I thought I was the only good-look- ing 7-footer at the WAC," Solomon says with a smile. "All jokes aside, I love play- ing alongside Spencer. We play off each other's strengths."
