GeNerAl TIcKeTS La Bohème at Seattle opera Friday, march 1 Set in 1830 in the Latin Quarter of Paris, this opera centers on a community of struggling artists. It opens on Christmas Eve with two of them, poet Rodolfo and his friend the painter, doing their best to stay warm by burning pages from Rodolfo's latest drama. Joined by two more friends, one of whom brings food and wine, they are soon laughing and eating heartily. Their landlord comes to collect rent and they ply him with wine. When yet another knock on the door is heard, we meet Mimi, a neighbor who is cold and has come to ask for a match for her candle. The romance that begins on this dark winter night between Rodolfo and Mimi unfolds to Puccini's exquisite and tender music and stands at the center of one of the greatest operas ever written. 7:30 pm (2 hours, 40 minutes); $125–$144; noncancellable/nonrefundable Artbeat presents: In The Mood—A 1940s big band revue at benaroya hall Sunday, march 10 With a big band orchestra, singers, dancers and period costumes, this touring production presents a musical throwback to the 1940s.
