18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | JUNE / JULY 2015 Teamworks TEAM MEMBER OF THE MONTH JANUARY DAVE MELCHER MEN'S FITNESS FEBRUARY ALLAN BUSTOS BANQUETS Before joining the WAC team in 2008, Allan worked as a houseman at the Crowne Plaza hotel and at a cannery in Alaska. As Lead Houseman, Allan ensures that banquet rooms are set up correctly for the many meetings, receptions, and other events that take place at the Club. "Allan has proven to be our go-to guy when we have special scheduling requests," Director Catering Sales Rick Cardona says. "His demeanor is very calm and comforting, and he has taken ownership of his area of responsibility." Allan says he enjoys his work here and has found a new challenge with his audio-visual responsibilities. "It is a good environment and a good place to work," he says. Former Banquet Supervisor Ben Stanton also gives Allan high marks. "He is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen," Ben says. "He is a great example of the structure that holds together the Clubhouse … and he's eager to help members and guests alike." Dave Melcher joined the WAC in 2012 from the Seattle Athletic Club, where he also worked as a fitness attendant. Dave opens Men's Fitness at 4 am, making sure Club members can work out before the sun comes up. Since he joined the WAC, Dave has received many member compliments on the quality of his service. "He possesses a unique trait that invokes a smile every time you see him," Men's Fitness Manager Ben Stanton says. "I have yet to see a member enter this facility who Dave didn't greet by name. He exemplifies what it means to be a part of this esteemed club." Dave says his favorite thing about the job is the camaraderie, calling the WAC "the best place I've worked by far." But he admits he couldn't do it without his wife. For starters, he says: "She drives me to work every day!" MARCH ERICA LIM INN AT THE WAC Two years ago, Erica was hired to work at the front desk of the Inn at the WAC. Her great work ethic, high motivation, and tremendous contribution to the Inn led to her promotion to Front Office Supervisor. Erica is the perfect person to train new front office team members, passing along her commitment to exceptional service, a hallmark of the Inn. Director Hotel Operations Kamil Turczanski praises Erica's dedication, focus, consistency, and willingness to learn. "She has done a great job guiding and leading the front office team, taking on more responsibility, and suggesting projects," Kamil says. Billing Specialist Harry Lubas, who previously supervised the Inn front desk, agrees. "Erica is a valuable asset to the Inn as well as the Club," he says. Before the WAC, Erica attended beauty school. She hopes to someday pursue beauty and makeup. But for now, she enjoys her team and her growth in customer relations and hospitality.
