Reciprocal Club Colombo Swimming Club By Michelle Van Slack, Director Member Services A Sri Lankan paradise Explore biodiversity from our newest reciprocal club F or many, Sri Lanka is off the beaten path. Unless you are WAC member Mark Scott, who frequently visits the country on business. Mark highly recommends the Colombo Swimming Club, located in the capital city of Colombo. is past February, the club was approved by our Board of Governors to become the newest addition to our reciprocal network. "It is a fantastic club," Mark says. "From service to amenities, they have everything you need." e Colombo Swimming Club was founded in 1936 by expats who were looking for a family meeting place. e club found its home overlooking the ocean. Its crowning jewel is an outdoor 100-foot swimming pool that gives the club its name. In addition to the pool, the club offers badminton, squash, out- door tennis courts, a gymnasium, and golf lessons by appointment. e club's three restaurants are fully air conditioned, as are the 17 guest rooms. e rooms are contemporary with crisp white walls and linens. Six of the rooms offer sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. e Colombo Swimming Club offers an excellent home base for island exploration. is incredible nation has numerous nature preserves to protect its flora and fauna, some of which are endangered. Sri Lanka is home to more than 400 bird species and 91 mammals, including elephants, leopards, monkeys, and the rare red slender loris. Sri Lanka is a tropical island with two separate monsoon seasons, meaning there is always nice weather to be found somewhere on the island. If you are visiting the Colombo Swimming Club, the optimal time is September through April. Although the average temperature in Sri Lanka is a toasty 80 degrees, the Colombo Swimming Club will keep you cool. All you need is your letter of introduction.
