Letter from the President & CEO Chuck Nelson, President & Chief Executive Officer / cnelson@wac.net T here are many reasons why people join a full-service, multifunction club such as the WAC. Some people join for a single purpose, such as the high-quality fitness facilities, the thriving Wine Club, or the delicious dining options. Others join because they can find so many great amenities in one place and enrich virtually every tangible aspect of their lives in a single building. But another strong factor in why people join clubs—and why they stay—is that they want to be a part of, and gain the benefits of being a part of, something that adds to their well-being. ey want to build relationships that stem from common areas of interest with people who share their lifestyles, their values, and their commitment to quality of life. ese relationships are forged in virtually every physical area of the WAC, in every program and amenity the Club offers, and during every part of the day. ese relationships take many forms—and they live and grow and change. ey may be social, they may be business, they may be both of those things, and they may be more than that. ey develop among early morning swimmers, lovers of great Cabernet, basketball players, midday "boot campers," and evening Pilates people. And they often extend well outside the boundaries of the Clubhouse. e Washington Athletic Club is all about making people's lives better, about promoting and encouraging and facilitating quality of life—tangible and intangible. Building healthy habits starts young. Turn these pages and learn of the opportuni- ties for WAC members to get their kids off to a great start. Take a look at the Club's thoughts on fitness and nutrition, and read a very interesting take on the effects of technology on the wellness of our teens. As summer approaches—and as you and your children decide how they are going to spend it—the WAC is providing some tools and options that can help make sure that free time is time well spent. Please take advantage of all that the WAC offers. Squeeze every drop out of your membership. Try something here that you haven't tried before. Turn to the Club Programs or Athletic Programs listings, close your eyes, and drop your finger on the page. Now go to that party or take that fitness class. You may meet some good friends you don't even know you have yet. ank you, Improving members' lives
