18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | MAY 2014 T he Washington Athletic Club is truly my family's home away from home. Ask me what I love about the Club, and I would start with all of the amenities found within this oasis in the heart of busy Seattle. ere are world-class athletic facilities, hotel rooms, food and wine, and a staff for which there is no equal. What makes the WAC even more like home are the friendships, relationships and connections made here. e Club Programs department offers many opportunities for members to meet and connect. ere is the crown jewel event, our annual Jubilee celebration, of course. But there are also concerts, plays, cultural field trips, family events, culinary experiences, and innumerable other opportunities to share time with friends and meet new ones. I encourage you to enjoy these offerings as often as possible. I was introduced to the WAC by my wife, Rose, before we were married. I instantly recognized what a special place the Club is through the amazing network of friends I met. For us, the Washington Athletic Club continues to evolve and enrich our lives. We enjoy attending various events and always remark on how the WAC knows how to throw a party, right down to the finishing touches that make every event truly memorable. is means the best seats for plays and shows; rare access to insider Seattle happenings, such as a tour of the Bertha dig site; and family events, like the Father Daughter Banquet and Children's Spring Party. e Club's staple event continues to be Jubilee, a formal holiday evening of fun and a celebration of our Club's founding. If you haven't been, be sure to circle this coming December 5 on your calendar. You won't be disappointed. For anyone looking to get involved, I encourage you to join Club Programs Senior Event Manager Robert Laurent for casino dealer training. Working at the Jubilee casino is a great opportunity to become part of a WAC tradition. You can also sign up to join one of the Club Programs event-planning committees: Arts & Entertainment, Family Activities, In the Know, Northwest Discovery, and 20s/30s. Look for our annual committee call in the June/July issue of WAC Magazine. As I prepare to pass the torch to the next chair of the Program Board, I want to thank the members of the 2013– 2014 Program Board for an incredible year. Congratulations to our 2014– 2015 Program Board officers: Courtney Meyer (chair), Ron Robin (vice chair), and Maria Finlayson (secretary). I'd also like to thank the volunteer members of the five planning committees for all their time and effort. e success of the committees is the direct result of the incredible support of the Club Programs team, led by Vice President Melissa Borders. Her team includes Robert as well as event coordinators Mary Ellen Jilek and Cheryl Simmons. Finally, I want to say thank you to all WAC members for helping increase participation in Club events. From my family to yours, I encourage you to make the WAC your home away from home.
