WINTER / SPRING 2024 33 club life reciprocal club Get away to Portland Discover the City of Roses Looking for a regional getaway? Seattle's closest big-city neighbor offers a unique brand of adventure just a couple of hours down I-5. Plus, WAC members can visit a trio of reciprocal clubs in Portland, Oregon, one of which provides overnight accommodations. Portland's abundance of natural beauty—it's located at the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette rivers— might be what you notice first, and for good reason. Natural attractions include 458-acre Washington Park, home of the Portland Japanese Garden, Hoyt Arboretum, Oregon Zoo, and the Inter- national Rose Test Garden, whose more than 10,000 rose bushes give Portland its flowery nickname. Visitors will also find a vibrant arts and culture scene and flat streets whose walkability will welcome you to roam for hours. As you do, stop by Powell's City of Books, the Portland Art Museum, Old Town, Voodoo Donuts, and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry—all Portland mainstays. Want to go soon? e Portland International Film Festival takes place in February, and the Portland Trailblazers' season runs until April. Plus, just outside of town, Multnomah Falls (Oregon's tall- est waterfall) and Mount Hood (the state's highest mountain) beckon year-round. To visit a reciprocal club, members must request a letter of introduction. Log on to wac.net/loi.
