Our exterior cleaning and repair project wrapped up in early April aer six months of careful work. Funded in part by the WAC Foundation, the project washed the building façade for the first time in about 25 years. At the same time, aesthetic repairs were made to historic building features, including terra cotta eagles, gargoyles, and other decorative elements. "It looks great," Chief Operating Of- ficer Wayne Milner says, looking back at the WAC from across the street. "It took a few months longer than we expected, but the wait was worth it." As the project progressed, so did the Physical therapy Blue Angels Staircase artist Centenarians scope of repair work. "is project was both a necessary and aesthetically de- sired project," President & CEO Chuck Nelson says. "It was important for the health and care of the masonry, and it helps show off and bring a vibrancy to the artistic features of the Clubhouse." Nearly 93 years old, the WAC Club- house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Looking at before and aer pictures, it's easy to see the impact of the cleaning. "We had members who work across the street telling us how cool it was to see the difference as the cleaning moved along the building," Chuck says. e project began in September 2022. As work turned the corner from the east side of the building to the north, the scale of aesthetic repairs grew unexpectedly. "e contributions of the member- ship to the WAC Foundation were a crit- ical part of the funding to get this done," Chuck says. "We have more projects to discuss with the Foundation going forward and look forward to partnering with them on other exciting plans." e Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprof- it whose sole purpose is to preserve and enhance the WAC Clubhouse, has raised nearly $850,000 since its inception four years ago and also helped fund 1930, our new lobby-level coffee shop and gather- First Take P H O T O I L L U S T R AT I O N : E M I L I O H U E R TA S Clubhouse exterior project complete
