Once considered the ideal post-
dinner complement to a diner's bill,
matchbooks have largely disappeared
from tabletops and host podiums.
Often ornately adorned with a
restaurant's logo, these perfect pocket
packets provided a bit of elegant
advertising as well as easy access to a
light in those long-gone days of post-
meal puffing. Although the tradition
has died, the relics remain. Thanks
in large part to understated
artwork and elegant depictions,
we can't help but feel a touch
of wistful affection for
these striking surfaces.
