"'Terrazzo' explores what it means to celebrate and upli the parts of ourselves that we deem broken," says Allison, who hopes the work inspires viewers to find beauty even in the fragments of them- selves that they cast aside. Made from various mediums—including plaster, acrylic paint, and more—"Terrazzo" grew from Allison's self-reflection and internal journey, she says. Formerly based in Seattle and now working from her studio in Big Sur, Cali- fornia, Allison's journey as a professional artist started aer college when a friend encouraged her to pursue work in an art gallery. "I started emailing galleries to see if they had any open positions, and I discovered a gallery in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for artists with intellectual disabilities and autism," she says. Aer securing an instructor gig at the gallery, Allison's childhood passion for art was reignited. "ese artists were unabash- edly themselves, proud of their work, and unafraid to take risks. I oen say that while I was technically their teacher, they were truly the ones teaching me." "Terrazzo" will be on display in the Grand Staircase Gallery through the end of March.
