Inspiration from within
Artist Roberta Wagner's "Transitions" visits the Grand Staircase Gallery
When viewers stop and admire Roberta
Wagner's "Transitions" collection in the
WAC Grand Staircase Gallery, Roberta
hopes it will prompt memories and feel-
ings that renew, inspire, and strengthen.
With four decades of experience in
various artistic media, Roberta's journey
has taken her from studying ceramics to
painting.
"I've learned that when making
things, I lose all sense of time and con-
nect with something larger than myself,"
the Gig Harbor-based and Minnesota-
born artist says. "It's now so clear to
me that making art is a part of me that
desperately wanted to come out into the
light. I no longer question why. I'm just
grateful that I listened."
Comprised of several pieces, "Tran-
sitions" was created surrounding the
death of Roberta's husband in 2019.
Each piece reflects a stage of Roberta's
journey through her emotions, touching
on various aspects of grief, from its early
stages to later feelings of acceptance and
preparation for a new beginning.
"I want my work to feel other world-
ly, transcendent, and universal," Roberta
says. "Perhaps reminding the viewer of
some time or place in their own life."
"Transitions" will be on display in the
Grand Staircase Gallery this summer.
