Perhaps the most notable of all San Francisco's landmarks is the Golden Gate Bridge, whose iconic suspension design, vermillion color, and massive stature are synonymous with the state of California. Taking a stroll along nearby Golden Gate Park is an activity all first-time visitors should add to their list. Since its opening over 150 years ago, Golden Gate Park has become the third-most visited park in the country and boasts a bevy of notable attractions, from the Japa- nese Tea Garden to the Conservatory of Flowers. e park also hosts the annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, which has featured some of the biggest names in music. is year's festival takes place August 5–7. Aer working up an appetite, visit one of the city's several historic neigh- borhoods. ey're the best places to get authentic eats and enjoy the cultures of the West Coast's most densely populated city. San Francisco may be small at just 47 square miles (compared to Seattle's 84 or Los Angeles' 503), but what it lacks in physical size it makes up for in walk- ability, diversity, and history. Founded in 1776, the city has been influenced by nearly 250 years of change and changing population. e Mission District is one of the city's oldest neighborhoods and most recently reinvented. Its streets buzz with Mexican culture, art, and tasty taquerias. Nearby Mission Dolores Park offers jaw-dropping city views and plenty of open space. An hour's walk away, you'll find the oldest Chinatown in North America. A half-mile uphill, iconic Coit Tower at the top of Telegraph Hill offers 360-degree views of the city, including the afore- mentioned famous bridge. While you're in the Bay Area, con- sider enjoying professional basketball, baseball or football. e Seahawks play at the 49ers on September 18 this year, while the Golden State Warriors and San Francisco Giants both play on the shores of the bay.
