10 WAC Magazine | wac.net first take seafair triathlon / rugby awards Join us in honoring college rugby's top players at the seventh annual Sorensen & Scholz Collegiate Rugby Player of the Year awards ceremony on Saturday, June 11, in the Crystal Ballroom. e banquet recognizes the nation's best college rugby players, with the top women's player receiving the MA So- rensen Award and the top men's player receiving the Rudy Scholz Award. e selection process begins with Division I players across the country voting on three finalists from a group of nominees. Final selection of the winners is decided by a panel of college coaches and members of the rugby community. Past winners of the Sorensen & Scholz Awards have gone on to play profession- ally and for the U.S. national team. is year's winners will be announced in May. e WAC is the official home of the Sorensen & Scholz Awards. E M I L I O H U E R TA S Celebrating college rugby's best players Last year marked the first time "Seattle's only triathlon" moved out of the city limits, to Lake Sammamish State Park. e move, done in part to expand the Seafair festival's reach, will continue this year as the Seafair Triathlon returns to the southern shore of Lake Sammamish. Hundreds of athletes—including dozens of WAC members—will swim, bike, and run their way around the park and nearby environs on Sunday, July 24. e race offers various course formats— including relays and duathlons—that cater to everyone from elite endurance athletes to casual racers and children. e main triathlon is a sprint-distance event, including a half-mile swim, 14.8- mile bike, and three-mile run. e WAC is the official athletic club of the Seafair Triathlon, and WAC members receive 20 percent off their race registration when they use the code "WAC20." WAC members will also receive a discount on the 44th annual Torchlight Run, set for Saturday, July 30. at discount code will be posted on wac.net. e Torchlight Run offers five- and eight-kilometer options and takes place just prior to the Torchlight Parade. e race starts and ends at the Space Needle and runs through the streets of downtown.
