22 WAC Magazine | wac.net Your go-to golf destination Spring means golf, and this year we have more offerings than ever Like many outdoor pursuits, golf has experienced a boom in popularity over the past couple of years. With that has come an increase in the number of WAC members looking to improve their game or pick up the sport for the first time, according to WAC Athletic Programs Manager Darin Barr. Darin oversees the WAC Golf Club and is also the resident expert for the new Golf Simulator, located on the 8th Floor. "e Golf Club focuses on giving mem- bers a chance to learn the game in a less competitive environment that's friendly for beginners," he says. "It's also a great way to introduce yourself to the WAC golf community." e Golf Club begins weeknight 9-hole socials at courses in and around Seattle in early spring and plays through summer. Darin also plans to put some 18-hole events back on the schedule this year, including the return of the WAC championship, last played in 2019. New this year, the Golf Club will also hold some events using the Simulator. "It's really a great way to get in a lot of swings in a short amount of time," Darin says. "Reservations for the Simulator are already hard to come by during prime time, which is mostly aer work." e Simulator offers golfers of all skill levels state-of-the-art technology to help learn and fine-tune their swing. Golf Instructor Gilbert Quitlong uses the Simulator's analysis tools to break down and improve members' form. "e Simulator helps the seasoned golfer dial in on their game and helps the beginner understand the mechanics of their swing year-round, regardless of the weather outside," Gilbert says. Ryan Gutz, a certified Titleist Per- formance Institute medical practitioner offering Golf Performance Evaluations using the Simulator, agrees. "I have all the information I need to not only figure out what the golfer is doing, but why their swing faults are happening," he says. For those wanting to improve their swing outdoors, Gilbert also offers WAC members lessons at Interbay Golf Center and oen joins the Golf Club's 9-hole socials. "It's going to be a great season," Darin says. living fit Golf at the wac u Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the sport, the WAC golf program can keep you swinging and improve your game.
