I have so many memories of cooking growing up. I still have my first cook- book. You won't be surprised to learn who gave it to me. Yep, grandma! Now about those side dishes I fell in love with so long ago. Grandma's gravy was amazing. I remember her talking about the drippings from the turkey and how she prized the roux, made with high-quality real salted butter. She'd add some fresh herbs from her garden and crushed black peppercorns. As I think back on it, I can still smell her gravy. As for the stuffing, caramelized bacon, onions, and celery were musts. But the most important ingredient was crusty sourdough bread. To this day, great sourdough is the foundation of the stuffing I make right here at the WAC. And then there's those cranberries. Like grandma's, my cranberry sauce uses fresh orange juice, cinnamon, cloves, and a few "secret" ingredients I can't mention (grandson's promise). I'm sure you'll agree, it's one of a kind! Yes, it's the holiday season again. A time when friends and family reconnect over a shared love for traditional dishes and shared memories.
