For me, the scents waing through the WAC kitchen this time of year are emotional triggers. ey are the sparks that bring back heartfelt images filled with fond memories. e scents and flavors of this time of year are nonpareil. anksgiving always reminds me of childhood days in the kitchen with my grandmother. I started cooking with grandma when I was about 5 years old, just a tyke. I'd get up very early and find her already at it, ingredients chopped and ready. Watching grandma put to- gether a meal, especially a very large one, was like watching a one-woman orches- tra. I have never met anyone who loved cooking for her family so much. e turkey was, of course, the center point of these meals. But I always had my eyes on the sides. e luscious gravy and bacon-laden sourdough bread stuff- ing—awesome!
