This workshop will provide you with helpful information about how to work better every day. By managing your calendar in a more efficient way you can achieve greater productivity. Elizabeth Bowman, president of Innovatively Organized, a Seattle-based productivity consulting firm, will present a onehour seminar that covers innovative solutions to common organizational challenges. Light appetizers and no-host beverages available. 6:30–8 pm; $28; cancel by May 21 bertha and the new waterfront tunnel N EW tuesday, June 4 The massive and much-talked-about machine that will bore under Seattle to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct has a name, and it's "Bertha." You'll see her upclose on our walking tour that begins at milepost 31's information center in Pioneer Square. Cultural resources expert Kevin Bartoy will provide a brief talk about archaeology and the role of archaeologists during construction. This is a chance to see some recovered historical items that provide a view into the area's past. You'll also look at a model of Bertha before taking a short walk to view the real deal from a platform near the state Route 99 tunnel project work zone. Our guides with the state Department of Transportation will be there to answer questions about pit digging and to highlight Bertha's amazing capabilities. The viewing platform overlooks the launch pit where she begins her mole-like dig. Bertha will perform the dual feat of boring and building the tunnel walls simultaneously. After the tour, we'll head a 38 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | MAY 2013 few blocks north up 1st Avenue to the Alexis Hotel Library Bistro for a dinner menu prepared specially for our event. Just below the street, engineers carefully calculated Bertha's dig to protect the buildings, some historic, including the Alexis Hotel. At the bistro, enjoy Tunnel salad, your choice of themed entrées, and finish with a mud pie dessert. Your entrée choices are: Bertha Beef, Construction Chicken, or Portal Pasta. Important note: Sturdy, closed-toed shoes are mandatory for the viewing platform. The tour takes place within an active construction zone, and the viewing platform is not recommended for visitors with limited mobility. Completed liability form required. 5:30–8:30 pm; $45; cancel by May 24 cheese making at river Valley cheese NEW saturday, July 20 Celebrate summer by going straight to the farm for an afternoon of cheese making with artisan cheese maker Julie Steil. In this two-hour hands-on class you'll get down and dirty with each step of the process to make two kinds of cheese. Both are yours to take with you, a wheel of Brie to age in your own refrigerator along with fresh mozzarella. While you are there, you'll feast on a buffet of cheese. We'll travel by motor coach to Steil's farm, River Valley Cheese in Snoqualmie Valley. Imagine your next dinner of Caprese salad with fresh basil and a thick slice of heirloom tomato with your own handmade mozzarella. Set at Grey Gardens, their mansion in East Hampton, New York, this intimate musical tracks the social fall of the two one-time aristocrats and attempts to untangle the complex dynamics of their complicated relationship.
