Joan owns Kitterman Marketing Group, an online marketing agency, and Jim is a senior vice president and financial adviser with McAdams Wright Ragen in downtown Seattle. Jim and Joan both regularly host meetings in WAC boardrooms and bring clients to Torchy's. "[We] wanted to join a club with opportunities to entertain clients," Jim explains. The couple looked at other clubs, but quickly settled on the WAC. "At the WAC, there is so much more, not just for work but for our family," Jim continues. "We all use the fitness facilities and the pool, and Joan uses the spa and the salon." Jim works out as often as he can, and Joan uses the Club as a home base when she finds herself downtown for business and personal time. "There's just something special about belonging to this place," she says. With two boys, ages 11 and 16, the Harkins also use the WAC for sports—the kids have played squash and basketball at the Club—and have held a pool party with the WACness Monster. "What we love about the WAC is it's not just a health club or a dinner club," Jim says. "We all feel at home here," adds Joan. So at home, in fact, that the family stayed at the Inn at the WAC for a week during a recent home remodel. During that remodel, Jim and Joan worked with interior designer and friend Tana Mattson. 18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | maY 2013
