6 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | JULY / AUGUST 2016 1 2 3 PERSONAL TRAINER JIM JEAN- FRANCOIS demonstrates the Triple Medicine Ball Push-Up, an exercise that builds strength in the chest, shoulders and triceps. Using the medicine ball engages your core and improves stability and balance. 1. Place your hands on small medicine balls. Establish your upper-body stance and then place your toes on the medium medicine ball. Squeeze your inner thighs together to center your weight. 2. When you feel stable, bend your elbows, lowering yourself to the ground. 3. Exhale and straighten your elbows, returning to your plank. Complete five reps. Penn State graduate and USA Rugby player Hope Rogers accepted the MA Sorensen Award. A powerful prop, Rogers played in the collegiate national championships four times and was named MVP twice. Dylan Audsley, the recipient of the Rudy Scholz Award, accepted his honor via telephone from New Zealand, where he was doing what he does best—playing rugby. Audsley recently helped his team to the 2016 USA Rugby College 7s national championship. THE WAC WAS SADDENED by the news of Blue Angels Capt. Jeff Kuss' passing in June. Kuss died during practice for an air show in central Tennessee. Kuss is a former guest of the Inn at the WAC, the Seattle home of the Blue Angels. Our thoughts remain with the family, friends and colleagues of Capt. Kuss. The Blue Angels are scheduled to perform August 5–7 as part of the Seafair Weekend Boeing Air Show. Remembering a Blue Angel Powerlifters from Special Olympics Washington, a WAC Community Partner, put on a show during their annual invitational at the Club in May. WAC members and team members volunteered at the event, held in Coed Fitness. Also on hand was Blitz the Seahawk. For more about WAC community involvement, see wac.net/giving-back.
