Letter from the President & CEO Chuck Nelson, President & Chief Executive Officer / cnelson@wac.net / @cnhuskies13 S ummer! Although the weather patterns in the Seattle area have apparently shifted to provide us with an April-to-September period of warm days, there is still something magical about July and August. Barbecues, hydro races, Blue Angels, walking around downtown without three layers! Plus, this year we get to enjoy the global phenomenon that is the Summer Olympics! WAC members can cheer on their own when the Games take place this August in Rio de Janeiro as two Club members will participate and follow in a tradition of WAC member athletic excellence. (For more on the Olympics, see pages 24–30). Member leaders and Club management recently wrapped up the strategic planning and budgeting process for our 2017 fiscal year, which begins August 1. The goal, as always, is to continue to provide better and better member experiences within a responsible fiscal framework and to allocate and prioritize our resources to meet the high standards and expectations of members and staff. The strategic initiatives provide for exciting new programs and offerings, and the approved budget stretches to accommodate the challenges of doing business in the city of Seattle with its ever-increasing costs and mandates. The dues increases this year is held at approximately 3 percent. It never gets less expensive to operate in Seattle. The end of the fiscal year also brings a transition in WAC member leadership. On July 31, Tammy Young ends her time as Chairman of the Board and Paul Ravetta steps into the position. Tammy has been a strong representative leader of the membership and provided outstanding wisdom and expertise. The WAC has a powerful tradition of community and business leaders serving the Club in this role, and the WAC has deeply benefited from Tammy's guidance. On a personal note, it has been a pleasure to work with Tammy. Her true caring for the WAC and its members and staff is inspirational. Wonderful things happen at the WAC! • The summer menus in our restaurants are delicious—Seafood Month runs through July! • Club Programs has dozens of ways for you to have fun and enjoy time with your fellow WAC members—they are just as accomplished and interesting as you! • The Inn at the WAC delivers the perfect "staycation"—your summer adventure starts here! As you take advantage of the Club this summer, be sure to share it too. Bring guests and show them the unique things available to WAC members. Our membership grows because of you! Happy summer!
