34 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | JUNE / JULY 2015 For the full schedule of Seafair events, please see page 13. ² When she started attending with her grandkids eight or nine years ago, Nancy decided on grandstand seating and never looked back. "It's nice to have those reserved seats and be right where the bands are playing," she says. "You can get there right when it starts. We still go a little early to enjoy the excite- ment of the people and the music and the whole atmosphere." The parade follows hot on the heels of the Seafair Pirate Run, formerly the Torchlight Run, where there's sure to be plenty of Jack Sparrow lookalikes. Pirate costumes will rule the summer, in fact, as Seafair flies the Jolly Roger around the city. "We're really encouraging people to get into the pirate spirit this year," Seafair Director of Sales, Marketing & Communications Melissa Jurcan says. The WAC will join in the fun with an eye-patch happy hour on Saturday, July 25, the day of the Pirate Run and Torchlight Parade. Warm up for the festivities with rum cocktails and other themed specials from 3–7 pm. Pirate costumes are heartily encouraged. SAILORS & TRI/CYCLE WAC members can also sign up for our second annual Adopt a Sailor event on Wednesday, July 29. This year we have expanded our commitment to 40 sailors. Following an Adopt a Sailor reception, participating members are asked to take their sailors to dinner, host at their homes, or show them around town. Torchlight Parade Adopt a Sailor at the WAC
