FALL / WINTER 2023 29 living fit junior programs Along with being able to burn off energy in the gym before dinner time, kids can spend time in the 8th Floor Card Room catching up on homework and partaking in cras or refueling with snacks from the WAC Café. Learn more and sign up for the aer-school program on the WAC app. Also during Aer School at the WAC, junior members will have access to the 8th Floor Simulator, which fea- tures a bevy of interactive mini games and resources for aspiring golfers to fine-tune their swing. Junior mem- ber Jack McGinnis recently enjoyed a private golf lesson in the Simulator with WAC Golf Pro Gilbert Quitlong. "Having a professional coach has helped me improve my game a lot," says 12-year-old Jack. "My favorite part of the Simulator is being able to take as many shots as I want and using the camera to track and rewatch my swing." e Simulator isn't just for golf—it offers plenty of other games, too, Darin says. "Kids always have a blast in the Simulator. It's a great place for kids to hang out and play games." Gilbert also offers private and semi-private golf lessons for WAC juniors using the Simulator, a popular option during the rainy season. "Learning golf at a young age while focusing on proper mechanics offers several advantages, including injury prevention and mental focus," Gilbert says. "I also encourage parents to get involved by watching their children's progress during lessons or by partici- pating together as a family." Darin says the Simulator is also a great way to teach good golf habits. "It's a low-pressure, less intimidating environment for kids to learn the basics of the game," he says. "ere's nothing like bringing up another generation of WAC athletes." —Reach WAC Associate Editor Joey Carreon at jcarreon@wac.net.
