N Ballard's new Nordic bar Skål (meaning cheers!) is a modern Viking mead hall. Communal tables, chunky wood, a massive fireplace, axes, and pelts make it feel like a scene straight from Game of Thrones. But it's the mead that keeps people coming back. One of the oldest alcoholic beverages, mead is made from honey, water and yeast and is sometimes flavored with fruits or spices. Mead maker Erik Newquist of Aesir Meadery in Everett will discuss the beverage and pour several tastings as we enjoy Skål's menu of shareable bar bites, charcuterie tasting boards, potted spreads, and your choice of roasted chicken or sausage. Cash bar includes Scandinavian craft beer, cider, wine, and aquavit cocktails. Viking wear welcome. Limited to 20.
