New year, new lobby
W
elcome to 2013! It has been wonderful to see how members and their
guests use the Club during the holiday season for so many significant
occasions. We had big crowds at formal holiday dinners and Club events,
including Jubilee 83. We booked dozens of family and company parties. And we
had great attendance at and support for the WAC open houses.
The restaurants and bars were a welcome resting spot for weary Christmas
shoppers, and the Inn and Spa hosted many nights and appointments for those
who were enjoying a full downtown Seattle holiday season experience. Thank you
for embracing the holidays at the WAC. We continue to be encouraged, humbled and
thankful to play a role in your lives at this great time of year. Your club is here for you!
We will be starting the new year with a significant and exciting project. In early
January, we will begin the Gateway Project, a remodel and improvement of the WAC
Lobby. At the completion of this approximately 90-day project, members and guests
will see a beautiful terrazzo floor, a decorative ceiling with improved and more adaptable lighting, and more casual seating areas. Great consideration and respect was given
in the design to the beautiful historic style of the building and the membership needs
of today and the future.
We look forward to a grander yet comfortable 1st Floor that will invite you to
stay awhile. During the project, travel patterns on the floor may be altered, but the
Clubhouse will remain fully functional, with all areas of the Club running at full
speed and open regular hours. There also will be frequent communication with you
during the project, with renderings and project information available via wac.net,
emails and signage. The new lobby will be something we���re all proud of.
On another note, you might not be surprised to learn that January is one of the
busiest months in the WAC���s athletic facilities. New Year���s resolutions lead to increases
in users, and we love it. Please take advantage of the Club���s group fitness classes and
personal trainers, or use the facilities on your own. And here���s hoping this is the year
you achieve your fitness goals.
Also, consider helping us honor the Pac-12 conference���s best offensive and defensive
lineman at the Morris Trophy luncheon, or take in the boxing action at Main Event.
