One of the things weve heard from members is that they want to hang out in the lobby more ... they want it to be a place they can linger and enjoy themselves. When finished, the Gateway Project will transform the WAC Lobby into a place members love to linger. Shown here are three drawings from the project plans. Creating a space that can serve various uses is also critical. To that end, almost everything will be done with an eye toward flexibility. Items that are currently stationarysuch as the security desk and bell standwill be replaced by moveable structures. Additional electrical outlets near casual seating will allow for impromptu work sessions, and new flooring and lighting will add a modern vibe. We want to make sure the space can flex, Bill says. Project planners are balancing modern upgrades with historical considerations in an effort to fuse the new and old seamlessly. The project is set to begin on January 6 and wrap up by early May. Upgrades to ventilation and plumbing infrastructure are also included, as well as seismic and fire-safety improvements. Two of the most exciting aspects of the project, Bill says, involve the detail of the ceiling and putting in new flooring. One thing is certain, he says: The lobby is going to have a new buzz. Darrick Meneken is Managing Editor of WAC Magazine. Track the project During the WAC Lobby remodel, members will be informed about progress and plans through wac.net, emails and Club signage. Members and guests may need to use the Runners Entrance for part of the construction period. The Club will strive to minimize inconvenience while maximizing improvements to the lobby.
