Discover how it pre- serves history with a visit to its unique museums. Enjoy lunch and wine at Suncadia's Swiftwater Cellars and then step back in time at the Carpenter House Museum & Art Gallery, a mansion from 1914 that belonged to the town's first successful banker and former mayor. Original furnishings and local artwork transport you back to the early days of the 20th cen- tury. Next, a docent-led tour of the South Cle Elum Rail Yard will provide a glimpse into the golden days of train travel. Finally, we'll check out telephone technology from 1901–1970 at Cle Elum's Tele- phone Museum. University of Wash- ington graduate and former Husky rower Eliza Dawson and three crewmates—two from the United Kingdom and one from Brazil—began their attempt to row the 2,400- mile crossing from Monterey to Honolulu this past June as part of the Great Pacific Race. Dawson and team planned to brave the Pacific Ocean in an attempt to set a new world record for the fastest cross- ing by an all-female crew and to bring awareness to climate change. Upon her return, Dawson will visit the WAC to talk about the journey. Event includes wine and appetizers.
