The annual 25- day festival is known for its eclectic programming with over 450 features, short films, and documentaries from over 80 countries. We've invited Beth Barrett, SIFF's director of programming, to give us a sneak preview of some of the films being featured during this year's festival, which runs May 18–June 11. You'll have a chance to learn about and view trailers of several films. SIFF is recognized as one of the top film festivals in North America. Join us for a visit to the Beacon Food Forest where we will experience a honeybee hive up close, learn how to spot wild bees, and get a guid- ed tour of one of the nation's largest public permaculture projects. Learn what honey- bees and the other 25,000 species of bees do for our food system. Located on Beacon Hill, the Beacon Food Forest was founded in 2009 and is a national leader in permaculture design. Teachers include USDA grantees and field experts on local pollinators. This event includes small-group field ex- periences and a honey tasting. Lakewold features large collections of rhododendrons, Japanese maples, camellias, cherry trees, gardens within gardens, sweeping lawns, symmetrical patterned plant- ings, reflecting pool, gazebo, and stunning statuary. During our docent-led grand tour, look for the rare blue poppy that blooms just a few weeks each year. You may purchase the poppy seeds, plants, or other items in the gift shop.
