A blend of classical, hip- hop, rock, R&B, and bluegrass music, Black Violin has collabo- rated with the likes of P. Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin, and The Eagles. According to The New York Times, "Black Violin works hard, but makes it all look like play. At each performance, the orchestra celebrates Cuba's rich musical history. ACAS founder and director Juan de Marcos stretches his creative wings and fuses contemporary, traditional, and future styles of Cuban mu- sic. The ensemble captures the undeniable spirit of Afro-Cuban music with a potent mix of driving percussion, a powerhouse horn section, piano, bass, Cuban guitar, and incomparable vo- cals. The Afro-Cuban All Stars' electrifying performance marries the past with the present with the grandeur and grace of the world's greatest orchestras. u 7:30 pm; $43 April 14–May 6 The Secret Garden N The 5th Avenue Theatre Based on the beloved children's novel, The Secret Garden tells the story of 10-year-old Mary Lennox. Recently orphaned, Mary is sent to England to live with her reclusive uncle, who is tormented by grief and dreams of his late wife. Alone in a crumbling mansion haunted by memories and loss, Mary seeks refuge in her late aunt's mysterious walled garden. After she meets her sickly cousin Colin, they discover the secrets of the garden together, ultimately bringing healing and happiness to the household. This production's phenomenal cast includes Daisy Eagan, who debuted on Broadway 25 years ago as Mary, becoming the youngest recipient of the Tony Award for Best Actress.
