18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2016 18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2016 R ose Mitchell joined the WAC at the encouragement of her immediate and extended family 14 years ago. She had just moved to Seattle from Portland. After joining, Rose quickly became involved with the 20s/30s Committee. She remains close friends with many of the people she met in her early days at the Club. One of those friends, Thomas Osmon, eventually officiated her wedding. These days, Rose uses the Club with her whole family—husband Frank Yon and their two young children. "I use the WAC now just as much as I did the day I joined," Rose says. M ember Penton Mott has been coming to the Club since he was a baby. The son of a squash fanatic, Penton grew up swimming and playing at the WAC. After attending college on the East Coast, he returned to Seattle and joined the Club as a Legacy Member. Penton spends many weekday mornings working out on the 5th Floor. "My most productive days begin at the Club," he says. Penton is also an active member of the 20s/30s Committee and loves to bring new people to the Club. "I tell prospective members very little before bringing them in," he says. "When I show them the facilities and bring them to social events, nothing really needs to be said." B orn and raised in Albania until he was 15 years old, Kris Gjylameti spent his high school years in Seattle and joined the WAC by way of his work in Hawaii. A WAC member since 2014, Kris originally belonged to The Pacific Club, a WAC reciprocal club in Honolulu. Kris joined the WAC after staying at the Inn during a business trip. Kris participates in the WAC Wine Club and plays in the men's basketball league. He is particu- larly fond of the community the WAC provides, a point he likes to highlight when bringing in prospective members. "I've attended events not knowing anybody and been really impressed with how welcoming and inclusive everyone was," Kris says. "That seems to be the norm for the Club. It's a great experience to come and really be welcomed in as a new member." They also grow the Club and ensure our continued status as one of the nation's premier city athletic clubs. Our Membership All-Star program honors those members who serve as primary sponsor for three or more new WAC members in a given year. The 2016–2017 membership year runs through July 31, 2017.
