The Phantom of the Opera May 7–9 Following an acclaimed sold-out tour of the United Kingdom, Cameron Mackintosh's spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's phenomenal musical success, e Phantom of the Opera, will come to Seattle as part of a brand new North American tour. Critics are raving that this breathtaking production is "bigger and better than ever before." This Phantom features a brilliant new scenic design by Paul Brown, Tony Award–winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award–winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler, and a new staging by director Laurence Connor. The production, overseen by Mackintosh and Matthew Bourne, boasts many exciting special effects, including the show's legendary chandelier. The beloved story and thrilling score will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this Phantom one of the largest productions now on tour. Back by popular demand, this reimagining of a classic tale spotlights the untold stories of Oz's most famous (or infamous) characters—the Wicked Witch of the West and her unlikely friend, Glinda the Good. The show follows green-skinned Elphaba from birth to college and through the life-changing events that eventually label her "wicked." Meet spoiled rich girl Glinda, local prince and heartthrob Fiyero, and even the Wizard of Oz himself, a troubled man very unlike the one you may remember. As Elphaba, a passionate political activist if there ever was one, fights injustice and seeks to undo the mistakes of the past, dark secrets and personal tragedies shape the history of Oz. The story pays homage to the classic Wizard of Oz narrative while simultaneously changing fans' understand- ing of it forever. A cautionary tale about love, friendship and trust.
