Letter from the President & CEO Chuck Nelson, President & Chief Executive Officer / cnelson@wac.net A nd in the blue corner … are all the WAC members who intend to come out fighting this year, to get into fighting shape, to fight the good fight, to get to their fighting weight! As in most things, the battle is not against an opponent but against ourselves. January is the typical time to start again, to re-commit, to vow this will be the year things are different. One January we will be right. We'll put down the fork and step away. We'll get the metabolic testing and truly understand how to get ourselves lean and fit. We'll visit a personal trainer and learn how to exercise smarter. Maybe it starts not with a monster plan but with a small commitment to walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes a day—see where that leads. It will likely lead in the right direction, and you'll feel so good you can't stop. You'll see positive results and you'll want more and more and … and your friends will say you look spectacular and seem really happy. Positive momentum is a wonderful and powerful thing. Yes, this could be the year, this could be the January to get started. And it could all start TODAY! Late this month you'll see some great examples of what commitment and passion in athletics are all about. The 18th annual Main Event, set for January 23–24, will be the biggest yet. Expanding to two nights for the first time, the event will draw more than 500 WAC members and guests to see the finest in collegiate boxing in a fashion only we can provide—a great meal, top-tier comedy entertainment, and amateur athletics at its finest. The only reward for these young men and women is the thrill of victory and the glory of competition. The WAC stays true to the inspired inscription by our front door. For more on that and on The Main Event, see page 28. Thank you for your support of the Club's Friends & Family new member initiative. Our list of WAC Membership All-Stars is growing! Your sponsorship of new members and your usage of the Club's many facilities is how the Club gets even stronger. Great things and unique experiences happen at the WAC. Have fun and enjoy the Club. That's why we're here. Happy New Year! Come out fighting this year
