18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2014 Teamworks JULY DANIEL NGUYEN MAIL & DELIVERY CLERK AUGUST BRONWEN MCBRIDE 2ND FLOOR KITCHEN Best known as the WAC's "Soup Lady," Bronwen has an extensive background in the culinary field, including six years as executive chef at Wing Point Golf & Country Club on Bainbridge Island and a year in charge of banquets at The Rainier Club. Bronwen handles the 2nd Floor broiler at breakfast and makes the WAC soups from scratch each day. "She is an amazing team member," Executive Chef Eric Floyd says. "She is punctual, her work ethic is very strong, and she always strives to go the extra mile." Vice President Food & Beverage Peter Christian agrees. "Great soups aside, I think her fun nature and positive attitude might be her greatest gift to the WAC," he says. Manuel Lozano in the Sports Café calls Bronwen friendly and helpful. Plus, he says: "She makes the best soups. We get a lot of compliments about them in the Sports Café." In his two years at the WAC, Daniel has filled many roles, including recent double duty in the Club Shop and as Mail & Delivery Clerk. Merchandising & Spa Operations Manager Suzana Sakay says Daniel displays wonderful customer-service skills and was a key contributor to the Club Shop's espresso service. "Daniel was instrumental in helping us in that transition," she says. Despite being so busy, Daniel is always kind and professional. Designer Anna De La Paz is impressed with Daniel's kindness and service. "He treats me with as much respect as he would a Club member," she says. SEPTEMBER CARLOS GARCIA SPORTS CAFÉ DID YOU KNOW? ✪ Daniel loves playing golf and spending time with his family and two dogs. ✪ He works part time as a basketball referee. ✪ He has a strange phobia. He fears riding Greyhound buses. DID YOU KNOW? ✪ When she was a child, Bronwen used to dine with her grandmother at the WAC. ✪ Her first cooking job out of school was at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan. ✪ She has three adult sons, who she says "are all awesome individuals." DID YOU KNOW? ✪ Carlos moved to the U.S. from San Luis de la Paz, Mexico, 20 years ago. ✪ He has four kids, ages 15 to mid-30s. ✪ He owns his own janitorial business. ✪ In his free time he likes spending time with his family and watching soccer. TEAM MEMBER OF THE MONTH In his 18 years at the WAC, Carlos has seen the 8th Floor food service venue go through many changes, evolving into the great Sports Café we now know and love. But one thing hasn't changed—Carlos' dedication to his job, WAC members, and his fellow team members. You probably know that Carlos greets everyone by name and loves wishing customers a wonderful day. He has never missed an opening, arriving at 5:30 am five days a week. He also handles the weekend receiving order, making sure the Café doesn't run out of products. Sports Café Manager Anne-Marie Mennen calls Carlos a rock star. "He makes my management duties that much easier," she says. She also praises his genuine care for Club members. "He makes each and every member feel special," she says.
