The holidays are also about tradition. The WAC is steeped in holiday tradition and serves as a very special place to celebrate this festive time of year. The anticipation starts the moment the Mercedes CLA250 arrives in the lobby. The Jubilee Grand Prize is a nice and (intentionally) not-so-subtle reminder of the approaching holidays. One of my fondest WAC holiday memories was an annual private family gathering held in the spacious Presidents Suite. This tradition at the WAC was started by my wife's aunt (Elaine Ethier) and featured a holiday musical show performed by all the grandchildren (McKenna Spencer, Sage and Reed Redman, and Emma and Truly Dorland). Elaine arranged and directed the show and made spe- cial costumes for the girls, which included ornate velvet capes. This singing group, aptly named the "Colorful Caped Carolers," performed a number of holiday musical vignettes to an adoring crowd. The WAC team members who helped us on those days were very accommodating with respect to staging the piano and other necessary show logistics. The event remained a treasured family tradition for a few short years until busy holiday schedules made it too difficult to coordinate. This year, we plan to start a new family tradition at the WAC—with collective input from my daughters, of course. The WAC holiday season officially kicks off on November 16 with the 15th annual GingerMania. This event will be followed by a series of other favorite traditions, includ- ing Holiday Shoppers Teas, Children's Holiday Shows, Jubilee, and the New Year's Eve party. This year's Jubilee will be a special event as the WAC kicks off its 85th anniversary celebration. Also, look for the Club to be adorned in familiar holiday decor starting the day after Thanksgiving. I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season and sure hope the WAC plays a role in your festivities. Cheers! Making holiday traditions Jubilee 85: Cheers! Remember that on Friday, December 5, only Jubilee attendees and registered Inn guests will be allowed Club access after 5 pm. Please join the party! For much more on Jubilee, see pages 26–30.
