The Club is working hard to balance access while maintaining clean and safe facilities. u ey were surreal days around the WAC Clubhouse this past March. One moment, our minds dried to spring getaways and the coming months of summer. e next, day by day, the news increasingly turned to a global health crisis we'd all come to know as COVID-19. And then, in what was seemingly the blink of an eye, downtown Seattle and, by extension the WAC, sim- ply closed … along with the rest of the state and most of the country. In the sky, planes ceased to fly. "Being told to suspend operations was severe, but management and member leadership took the challenge head-on," WAC President & CEO Chuck Nelson says. "I am impressed, but not surprised, at the creativity and diligence of our team. ey went above and beyond in creating as much value for the membership as possible." Club operations officially hit the pause button on March 23, with only essential staff reporting to work. e notable exception was WeeWACs, where the WAC childcare team turned its attention to helping "essential work- ers"—including those working directly with the health and science response to COVID-19—keep their work lives afloat by caring for their children. e statewide Stay Home, Stay Healthy order—and similar orders around the country—marked an unprec- edented moment in modern history.
