48 WAC Magazine | wac.net With warm weather fast approaching, it's time to clean off your clubs and start planning your golf season. e WAC Golf Club makes it easy to get out alongside your fellow members with twilight socials and tournaments throughout spring and summer. Organized by Athletic Programs Manager Darin Barr, the WAC Golf Club spends casual aernoons and evenings at courses around Puget Sound. Golf Club member Jon Day has participated for seven seasons, not only because he loves the game but also because Darin makes it easy. "It's totally stress-free," Jon says. "Darin handles all the booking, pairing of partners, check-ins, and prizes." In essence, all you have to do is show up and play. A special highlight for Jon every year is the opportunity to play at White Horse Golf Club in Kingston, which offers WAC members 10 percent off greens fees and the ability to book tee times up to two weeks in advance year-round. White Horse's resident head golf professional Bruce Christy suggests WAC members ride the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston, where a White Horse shuttle awaits seven days a week to take players to and from the course. "WAC members are competitive and they enjoy premium products—White Horse offers both," Bruce says. e WAC Golf Club also holds a tournament at White Horse every season, an event Jon greatly enjoys. "It's a challenging course but fair," he says. "No two holes are the same, so it requires a variety of shots to score well." In addition to White Horse, Golf Club members play courses such as Sand Point Country Club, e Golf Club at Newcastle, the nine-hole course at Inter- bay, and municipal courses, including Jackson, Jefferson and West Seattle. "It's all about getting people together out on the golf course and having fun," Darin says. "Every season brings a new twist and new players." Players of all levels are welcome, and WAC Golf Instructor Gilbert Quitlong occasionally tags along and offers tips. Gilbert is also available for private lessons. "Everyone loves the game and enjoys meeting new people," Jon says. "e friends I've made over the years are easily my favorite part of the club." —Contact Darin Barr at dbarr@wac.net or 206.464.3074 for more information about the WAC Golf Club. Annual dues are $25 ($40 per couple) and additional event fees apply. Handicap cards are available for an additional $35 per person.
