JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2019 49 Angela and Slater Marshall wed in June 2017 in a small ceremony held at the Top of the WAC. "It was the perfect setting," Slater says. "Everyone from Charles at the front door to the team that served our dinner was extremely professional and gave us and our special guests lots of personal attention." The couple exchanged vows surrounded by a palette of yellow and white as views of Puget Sound opened through large windows looking west from the 21st Floor. Angela, a nurse at Skyline Retirement Community, walked down the aisle in a beautiful gown with train as a harpist played "Canon in D" followed by Mendelssohn's "Wedding March." Angela's father walked her down the aisle and Slater's longtime mentor, Don Kentop, presided over the ceremony, which was witnessed by an intimate gathering of 11 guests. Slater, a retired IT executive and WAC member since 1999, proposed a year before the wedding during a weekend escape to the Inn at the WAC. When planning their wedding, the couple made many choices after Angela attended A Catered Affair, an annual open house hosted by the WAC Catering department. That day, Angela met Katie Takahashi, who personally assisted her and Slater throughout the planning process and on their special day. "The open house was really well organized, and Katie and her professionalism are what ultimately sold us on having the wedding at the WAC," Angela says. "She is the best." Following the ceremony, guests mingled during a cocktail hour and sit-down dinner, also served at the Top of the WAC. "Great food, outstanding service, and a memorable time with loved ones," Slater says. "Our wedding experience is just another reason why we love the WAC." Before retiring to the Inn at the WAC for the night, the couple rode to Lynnwood and visited Angela's ailing grandmother. Says Angela: "It was a very special moment in time—one I will never forget." The WAC invites members and member-sponsored weddings of up to 220 guests. The Club offers everything from appetizers to dinners and dessert. Most amenities are included. Senior Catering Sales Manager Katie Takahashi guides couples through every step of the process. Contact Katie at 206.464.4635 or ktakahashi@wac.net.
