NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2018 49 club programs snapshots Snapshots Photos from recent Club events. wac.net/photo-galleries Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Tour Friday, September 14 Aboard Explorer of the Seas, members had a chance to experience what it would be like to call this exciting ship home during a summer cruise to Alaska. See page 46 for an Alaskan cruise on its sister ship, Ovation of the Seas. U.S. Coast Guard Tour Wednesday, August 22 WAC members got a behind-the-scenes tour of the sprawling U.S. Coast Guard Base Seattle at Pier 36 near Safeco Field, and some even got to try their hand at remotely operating a small underwater vehicle. The group visited the weapons armory and explored a search-and-rescue boat—we were on it when it got called into duty to help a capsized boat! At the end of the tour, the base's executive officer welcomed us aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Mellon, where crew members led us up the ship ladders to tour the bridge, rounding out an exciting and informative look at one of the Seattle waterfront's national treasures.
