Beautiful Barcelona
Your escape in the center of Catalonia
Just minutes from the beaches of Barcelona, Círculo
Ecuestre welcomes WAC members into the heart and
capital of Catalonia. "e club, whose name translates to
""e Equestrian Circle," was founded in 1856 by a group
of Catalonians with a love for horse riding.
"e current clubhouse, built in 1910 by Spanish archi-
tect Juan Hervas y Arizmendi, was originally constructed
as a private home. "e modernist building is represen-
tative of the #ne works of Spain's best-known architect,
Antoni Gaudí. Anyone wanting to honor Gaudí during
their visit can walk from the club to his #nal resting place
at the famous La Sagrada Familia, located just over a mile
away. Designed by Gaudí, the church is slated for #nal
completion in the year 2026.
An expansion of the Círculo Ecuestre clubhouse in
the 1990s added a fully equipped #tness facility, roo!op
pool, and dining terrace. "e club also includes 16 hotel
rooms, a chic restaurant, and an ultra-cool bar with her-
ringbone-patterned wood $oor.
During your visit, enjoy beaches along the Balearic Sea
(part of the Mediterranean) or head north to spend some
time hiking or skiing in the Pyrenees. As for the horses,
the club's equestrian ties remain primarily in name alone.
