eattle's surrounded by water. The narrow isthmus we call
home rests between Puget Sound to the west and Lake
Washington to the east. With over 200 miles of shoreline
to choose from, Seattleites have little trouble locating the
nearest put-in. Our major waterways and their smaller relatives—
lakes, streams, wetlands, and more—serve as a summer play-
ground for many Seattleites, and WAC members are no exception!
From paddleboarding to open-water swimming, WAC members
love getting out there this time of year. In fact, the first Saturday of
May is officially considered the start of boating season.
We recently caught up with three members and a WAC instructor
to ask about their aquatic adventures and collect some insider tips
on getting the most out of a summer on the water. Whether you're
a swimmer, skipper, paddler, or passenger, it's time to answer the
siren song of Seattle's shoreline and dive in!
