JULY / AUGUST 2018 7 Welcome to the water issue Welcome to summer! It seems as if every month in recent memory has set a weather record of some kind—warmest, wettest, coldest, driest! But now we cross into July and August and we are officially in summer. Regardless of what the thermometer or rain gauge says, we can justifi- ably immerse ourselves in summer mode and the wonderful mental warmth that brings. Around here that means full-time enjoyment and appreciation of this glorious time of year in this remarkable part of the world. Mountains east and west, forests everywhere, and bodies of freshwater and saltwater literally minutes from every doorstep. With this abundance comes limitless opportunities to enjoy, partake, and celebrate our provincial pride in our Washington-ness. We hike, we bike, we swim. We waterski, we kiteboard, we kayak. We run our wonderful waterfront trails. We play golf and tennis and soball with views of Puget Sound. We swing in hammocks or lounge by the fire while camping lakeside. We even achieve that wonderful nirvana called the outdoor nap while listening to a nearby creek or the sound of lapping waves. Water is all around us. at's why we've dedicated this issue of WAC Magazine to diving deep into the topic of water. Our watery assets mean a lot to us here in the Northwest. ey define much of our identity, enhance our views, and dictate our commute—for better or worse. is is the season of water. Let's immerse ourselves in our good fortune. @cnhuskies13 Chuck Nelson President & CEO cnelson@wac.net Washington Athletic Club - Dedicated 1930 - Mission To enrich the quality of life of our members Vision To be the premier city athletic club in America Values Leadership, Excellence, Integrity, Service, and Sensitivity WAC® MAGAZINE JULY / AUGUST 2018 Volume 37, Number 4 ISSN 1091-7985 Washington Athletic Club ® 1325 Sixth Ave. Seattle, WA 98101 206.622.7900 / fax 206.464.3058 www.wac.net / magazine@wac.net 206.464.4631 / fax 206.464.1392 Subscription: $18 / Single copies: $3 Published bimonthly, plus holiday issue.
