28 WAC Magazine | wac.net club life letter from the program board chair 70th Father Daughter Dinner Jubilee 88 J O H N B A N G L I N D S E Y W A S S O N Tubing & Brews u Program Board Chair James Williams, second from left, and friends at the WAC's New Year's 2018 party. J O H N B A N G Connect with Club Programs committees e WAC has been a part of my life since childhood. I've slept in a crib while staying at the Inn at the WAC. I've toddled past the front desk with a high five. I even ordered my first drink as a 21-year-old here. I grew up in Yakima, but my family's Seattle home was the WAC. Aer college, I moved to Germany for seven years. When I moved back to the states and settled in to Seattle, I rejoined the WAC—this time for friend- ship and fun. My first WAC event aer returning was the annual Scavenger Hunt on Lake Union. I enjoyed the hunt, but more than that, it was the people who made the event meaningful. It was the perfect reintroduc- tion to the Club. Before long, I developed friendships with other members who pulled me deeper into the Club and led me to get involved with Club Programs committees. I started on the In the Know commit- tee, where I worked with members who were interested in all aspects of Seattle and its history. Two of my favorite ex- periences were touring the Nucor Steel plant and the Ballard Locks. My time on In the Know deepened my connections with fellow WAC mem- bers across Club Programs committees and helped prepare me to serve on the Program Board. My aim is to get WAC members and member leaders more involved in the lo- cal Seattle community. Last year, I joined the 20s/30s Committee in volunteering for Food Lifeline, a local nonprofit involved in rescuing food and redistrib- uting it to local food banks and shelters. rough it all, I have created friendships and cultivated new interests. If you want to know the fastest way to deeper WAC connections, I encourage you to follow my path. Your opportunity to sign up will be detailed in the July/August issue of WAC Magazine. If you can't wait until then, email clubprograms@wac.net to find out more. By James Williams, Program Board Chair
