APPLE CUP Nothing says college football with more passion around the WAC than the annual Apple Cup game between the University of Washington and Washington State University. Every year around this time, alumni of both schools jibe and banter about which university—and football team—is better. This year's Apple Cup marks the 105th meeting between the Dawgs and Cougs … or Cougs and Dawgs, depending on how you see things. We're honored to have former players from both schools as WAC members, 10 of whom gathered recently at CenturyLink Field (see photo on previous pages). Here are some of their memories, for better or worse, from our state's greatest sports tradition. TOM TURNURE WASHINGTON, CENTER, 1975–1979 Beating the Cougars five years in a row. TIM COWAN WASHINGTON, RICK REDMAN WASHINGTON; LINEBACKER, GUARD AND PUNTER; 1962–1964 Tackling George Reed at the goal line to stop a go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter of the 1962 game.
