Sign up to work on your game one-on-one, with a Row her boat New member Ursula Grobler, 32, didn't take up rowing until eight years ago. Since that time, the South African–born athlete has been collecting medals in singles and doubles scull races around the globe, especially Europe. Grobler talks with us about her training and going for the 2016 Olympic Games. How did you get into rowing? I moved to Seattle in 2004 to work as an au pair and took a "learn to row" class at Green Lake. I had never rowed in South Africa. I started rowing full time in 2008. What does your typical day look like? I row from 7–9 am, usually on Lake Union. A second workout around 2 pm could involve another row or running or weights. That's when the WAC is really beneficial for me. A third workout in the partner or in a small group. Prices start at $120/hour Contact: Darin Barr at 206.464.3074 or dbarr@wac.net By Darrick Meneken evening could involve some yoga or stretching. I row out of Lake Union Crew and work with coach John Parker. You and partner Hillary Saeger competed at the 2012 U.S. Olympic trials in lightweight doubles but missed making the team by one place. How was that experience? It was really hard. Afterward, I had to think about whether I wanted to try again. I realized I do. I have one more round in me. I'll be looking for another doubles partner to go for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Why rowing? I love the combination of technical skill and strength. You could row your whole life and never take the perfect stroke. The quest to keep doing that is what's really fun. Women's Basketball Interested in playing for the Women's WAC Basketball Team?
