Born and raised in Seattle, Frank Yanagimachi ran cross-coun-
try for Rainier Beach High School and competed in 10K races
and marathons aer graduating. His love for running translat-
ed well to the 27 years Frank spent in the Air Force Reserves,
where physical fitness was an essential component of
everyday life.
Frank served during the First Gulf War and had a long
civilian career at the Seattle Department of Transportation
and Sound Transit. His interest in fitness later blossomed
as a group exercise instructor and registered yoga teacher.
Frank was introduced to the WAC as a substitute teacher
for morning step classes. "I never thought my lack of rhythm
and two le feet could be overcome," he says. "But aer
attending step choreography workshops and getting a feel for
the right music, I found a new passion!"
In addition to group exercise instruction, Frank has exten-
sive training in therapeutic and restorative yoga, including
working with recovering cancer patients. Now semi-retired,
Frank teaches weekly yoga at the WAC as well as a ursday
step class.
