30 WAC Magazine | wac.net It is truly a joy to take this annual look back at the happen- ings and evolution of the Washington Athletic Club. is is a historic Club and Clubhouse, with a remarkably broad scope and scale of facilities, program offerings, and possible mem- ber experiences. We see incremental daily progress in some areas and highly visible significant projects in others. We can highlight physical improvements and updates to facilities around the Club; talk about behind-the-scenes infrastructure and technology upgrades; or show you the numbers behind the additional amenities and events and fitness classes. In each department, on every floor of the Clubhouse, we can shine a light on the accomplishments and improvements, driving home the point that the WAC is perhaps the most full-service city athletic club in America. Even in its 88th year, the Club's progress and evolution never stop. Member leaders and management are continu- ously driven to find new and better ways to serve the mem- bership. e focus never changes—provide great experiences for the Club's members and guests. To remain the region's premier fitness, social, and pro- fessional community requires push and growth and change. Each department of the Club annually creates an updated five-year Strategic Plan of ideas big and small, and a one- year Operating Plan that prioritizes which of those ideas we can fulfill in the current year based on needs and resources. e annual timeline in this issue of WAC Magazine pulls out some of the fun and memorable results of the past 12 months. When all is said and done, it is the member memories created during the year that really matter. e updating of the locker rooms and dining facilities, the beautiful new Grand Staircase and art gallery leading from the lobby to the 3rd Floor, and the continuous addition of state-of-the-art fitness equipment are all part of fulfilling the mission of enriching the quality of life of the membership. All the measurables are fun to look back on and feel good about— but they are just the parts. e sum of these parts is how members feel when they come to the WAC, the memories that cannot be placed in a graph or chart. What is more difficult to put in these pages—but that we know exists—is the relationships, neighborhood, and fellowship that is the WAC. During these past 12 months people got married here, met their future spouse, closed key business deals, learned to swim, recovered from injury, trained for athletic performance, shared time with friends, and so much more. Please enjoy this look back at the past year at the WAC. Your Club, your life. Recapping a great year is just the beginning Introduction by Chuck Nelson, President & CEO Executive Report 2016–2017
