Go back in time with HistoryLink.org staff historian Paula Becker as she discusses The Egg and I and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle author Betty MacDonald's life and career in an illus- trated lecture. She will read selections from her recently released biography of Mac- Donald—Looking For Betty MacDonald: The Egg, the Plague, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, and I. An early production shop for Dale Chihuly, Glass Eye is now the premier art glass studio in the country. Its most unique item is Celebration Ashes, where cremation ash- es of loved ones or pets are incorporated into glass paper- weight designs as memorial pieces. A major contribu- tor to the Seattle economy, the locks generate over $1.2 billion dollars of revenue per year. Rich Deline, director of The Corps Foundation (the official nonprofit of America's lakes and waterways), is coming to the WAC to talk about the history of the locks and educate members on planned renovations. Making macarons takes patience, skill and precision— pastry chef and culinary in- structor Antoine Rondenet of the Art Institute of Seattle will walk us through it step-by- step. Get an inside look at this iconic tourist destination as we descend 55 feet to the bottom of the drained lock to learn how it works. The locks are a critical link in the Puget Sound's marine infrastructure and play a role in the region's annual salmon migrations.
