NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2021 35 A er the pandemic canceled last year's Jubilee, WAC party planners pivoted to a virtual birthday party. It was, aer all, nine decades in the making. "We celebrated the Club's 90th anniversary in the best way we could virtually," says WAC Senior Event Manager Mary Ellen Jilek, who has been leading Jubilee planning since 2017. "at was amazing to see, but that event was nothing like what the party should have been." Just a few months before the pandemic, more than 900 members and guests filled the Club for the 2019 rendition of Jubilee. "e momentum of getting Jubilee back on the calendar has been exciting," Mary Ellen says. "We're here to make sure this party lives up to members' expectations and creates a safe and exciting celebration of the WAC turning 91 years old." is year's Jubilee is the latest entry in a WAC tradition dating back to the Club's founding in 1930. Over nine decades later, the event remains a debonair downtown affair that Club members describe as the best party in the city. "I attended my first Jubilee three years ago," WAC member Ali Ducich recalls. "I honestly didn't know what to expect. I was told it was a black-tie event and well worth the price of the ticket. ey were right! I had a great time and enjoyed exploring the different entertainment options and activities throughout the Club." At Jubilee, there's something for partygoers of all types. Are you a gregarious social butterfly? Mingle and dance the night away in the Noble Room. It's a guarantee that you'll run into someone you know. Would you rather keep it low-key and just enjoy the vibes? No problem. Grab some food and a drink and cruise the scene. You'll find music and entertainment no matter where you turn. Culinarily speaking, Jubilee is a marathon, not a sprint. "Our first Jubilee was in 2012," member Junior Haro says. "Our first impression was astonishment! e red carpet was rolled out and the air was filled with laughter. ere were beautiful people dressed to the nines. e festivities were amazing and so was the feast." The WAC is committed to the safety of our members. Jubilee 91 will be a vaccinated party. In accordance with local guidelines, members and their guests will need to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to attend. More details to be announced.
